Pastoral Care at º«¹úAV Primary focuses on the overall well-being of students, addressing their emotional, social, and mental health needs to create a supportive learning environment.

The school Wellbeing and Care team involves key staff members, including the Deputy Principal, School Psychologist, Student Wellbeing Officer, and Wellbeing Support Teacher. Through a case management approach, the team works to identify, support, and monitor the mental health and wellbeing of students.  They work collaboratively with teachers to provide support for the mental health and overall wellbeing of students.

Programs supporting student Wellbeing and Care include;

  1. Aussie Optimism: This program is designed to promote resilience and positive mental health in primary school students. It teaches children skills such as optimism, emotional regulation, and problem-solving to help them cope with stress, build self-confidence, and foster healthy relationships. Aussie Optimism is a proactive initiative to enhance students’ overall mental well-being.
  2. Seasons for Growth: A program aimed at supporting students dealing with grief and loss. It helps children understand and express their emotions, navigate changes in their lives (e.g., family separation or death), and develop coping strategies. The program encourages resilience and helps students manage their feelings in a supportive and structured way.
  3. Cool Kids Anxiety Program: This evidence-based program targets anxiety in children and helps them develop skills to manage and overcome their fears. It uses cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques to address the underlying causes of anxiety and teaches students how to challenge negative thoughts and feelings.
